Time to shine

“…Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” – Marianne Williamson

We all at some point may have watered ourselves down in order to appear more appeasing to others. Whether it be someone we’re trying to impress or merely an individual that we believe has a problem with us. This in essence is one way by which we dim the light that shines within us. You dim the very ingredients that make you, YOU. Or allow situations that arise take heartbreak for instance to engulf you leading to enough hang ups that not even an Ikea wardrobe could cope with the enormity.

“Be a first rate version of yourself, not a second rate version of someone else.” – Judy Garland

By not being your authentic self you are allowing yourself to be manipulated by others insecurities through seeking their validation. In effect allowing the brilliance that lives within you to remain dormant by suppressing yourself.

Life is far too short to be anything but happy and the idea of dimming my light does not appeal to me. More importantly how can I keep drumming into my eldest son that he needs to always be himself when I am doing the complete opposite.

One thing that we all need to remember is that we were all created differently for a reason. Embody your gifts and go forth into the world and shine as bright as you possibly can. Don’t worry about anyone that may want to ostracise or make you feel indifferent for doing so. Remember how amazing you are and maximise your full potential. Choose to shine!
