The Shortest Day – Or Longest Night

“At night, when the objective world has slunk back into its cavern and left dreamers to their own, there come inspirations and capabilities impossible at any less magical and quiet hour. No one knows whether or not he is a writer unless he has tried writing at night.”

Productivity for me usually comes knocking just after 11pm when I should have already begun to wind down in preparation for the next day.  But who am I to stop the myriad of idea’s that come weaving through my mind usually stemming from a keyword or an event and I know that if I stop. Pause. Decide to continue where I left off tomorrow. What could be deemed as a great post would not come to life but remain no more than a lonely carcass within my ‘draft’ folder.

With that said referring back to the question asked by Daily Prompt on whether or not I were an early bird or night owl. I am most notably a night owl.

If I were not going to work I could not foresee myself essentially churning out posts early in the morning when I’d much rather wiggle as much sleep possible into my schedule due to my more favourable nightly trappings.

Given that when I do have adequate time on my hands writers block seems to set in and I find it difficult to write a new blog post. What I firmly believe is that unlike during the daytime at night you get that sense of stillness. A stillness where ideas can freely formulate due to the apparent calm of the night. It’s you, your pen and paper and whichever device you choose to use to get creative on without distractions or interruptions from the constant noise we are so used to.

When I have completed a post knowing that I have fought shut-eye to ensure that it is somewhat publishable I get a great sense of accomplishment that washes over me which is one of the best feelings.

I mean they do say the early bird catches the worm. But I believe the night owl is certainly a lot more closer to their creative consciousness an truth be told there is definitely a reason why owls are considered wise birds 😉

  1. I’m the same way, thoughts and words come out best when I am ready to head to bed, it’s almost like a voice in my head always going ‘Oh! you can write about this!’ lol

  3. First off, I adore the quote you started with. It perfectly sums up how I feel about the night. Secondly, in general I wholeheartedly agree with your feelings on the matter. The stillness and magic of the night just DOES something to help me write.
